ACTORS & ACTRESSES NEEDED TO PLAY ZOOBOO CHARACTERS

Halloween comes alive at ZooBoo, the Indianapolis Zoo’s festival of all things spooky, scary, and creepy!  Our Bicentennial Pavilion is transformed into Pumpkin Town from October 7 through Nov. 1.  Characters must be 18 years of age or older, and available for the entire 20-day event.

Experienced actors and actresses need to complete and employment application, and supply an introductory character video no later than Sept. 4  for one of the main residents of Pumpkin Town:  Frankie the Friendly Witch, Mayor Jack, Professor Pumpkin, and Caretaker Chris.  Costumes are provided for all characters, and worn throughout working hours.

All roles require working outside, working in a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, wind), and standing/walking around for long periods of time on concrete.  A high school diploma or equivalent is required.   All character roles are paid $15/hr.  Two actors/actresses will be hired for each role.

Frankie the Friendly Witch

With a soft spot for her black cats and boiling cauldrons, Frankie enchants young children and their families with her secret potions, spooky stories and spells.  A great sense of humor and bewitching charm distinguishes Frankie from scary witches, and her engaging persona inspires visiting ghouls and goblins to believe in the fun and magic of Pumpkin Town!

Mayor Jack

Mayor Jack enthusiastically welcomes everyone to Pumpkin Town, and loves telling all our guests about how to visit Bewitching Bites, Pumpkin School, and Jack’s Barn in safe, fun ways.

Professor Pumpkin

Pumpkin School’s Professor Pumpkin loves science and sharing whacky experiments with children of all ages! Professor Pumpkin leads groups 10-12 guests through two or three fascinating 10-minute science presentations of prepared experiments.

Caretaker Chris

No one knows more about hissing cockroaches, pouched rats, scorpions, pied crows, rat snakes and animal skulls than good olde Caretaker Chris.  Quite the storyteller, Caretaker Chris weaves wild (true!) tales about weird and fascinating animal facts.

REQUIRED AVAILABILITY

ZooBoo takes place on Wednesdays through Sundays, afternoons and early evenings, from Oct. 7 through Nov.1

Work Schedule for all characters:

Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 1-7pm

Friday and Saturday from 1-9 pm.

APPLICATION PROCESS

In the “Position Desired” section of the application, please enter the character(s) you wish to bring to life:  “Frankie the Friendly Witch; Mayor Jack; Professor Pumpkin; Caretaker Chris”.

Cover letters and resumes should be attached. Please complete the application thoroughly.

Video Submission:

Please record a 2-minute video demonstrating your very best friendly character. They want to see your acting style and personality come through – so guidelines are flexible. Show how you interpret the character,  interact with a shy guest, tell us a spooky story, or even about what’s brewing in your cauldron – it’s up to you!
