A Call to Artist – Request for Qualifications (RFQ) Public Art at our Public Library

Project Overview:
The Fishers Arts & Culture Commission (FACC), the Hamilton East Public Library (HEPL) and the Ignite Studio at HEPL seek an artist, artist team, or creative company to design, fabricate, and install a large scale interactive art piece to be located at the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers (5 Municipal Drive) along the Nickel Plate Trail.

Desired install for the large scale interactive art piece is Fall 2021.

Scope of Service:
The project scope includes the design, fabrication, and installation of a large scale interactive art piece that will be incorporated into the design of the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers 2021 remodel of its outdoor space. The project should include the following:

  • Make it Local!
    Artists should involve the community in their creative process of making the piece. For example, the artist may participate in advertised public programming such as lectures or participatory sessions during installations, workshops, etc. The piece should reflect the city of Fishers and the library’s relationship to our community.
  • Make it Interactive!
    The piece should offer some kind of physical interaction for patrons, residents, and trail visitors.
  • Make it Connect!
    The piece should connect to HEPL’s mission and vision:
    – Mission: To be our community’s essential connector to information and ideas.
    – Vision: A connected library in a connected community.
  • The piece should reflect HEPL’s guiding principles
    These guiding principles are: Innovation, Discovery, Equity, Accessibility.

Budget:
The artist, artist team, or creative company will be compensated $125,000.

These funds are available by a matching contributing of the Fishers Arts & Culture Commission funding $100,000, and the Hamilton East Public Library funding $25,000, in addition to the cost of site preparation.

Additional compensation will be made available for artist’s participation in programming at the Hamilton East Public Library relating to the creation and unveiling of the piece.
