International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Inc.

International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Inc.

The mission of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (IVCI) is to recognize, reward and promote the world’s finest young classical violinists, and encourage understanding, appreciation and support of the violin repertoire by a large and diverse audience. For seventeen days every four years, Indianapolis is the most important place to be if you are a rising violin talent. Forty of the world’s brightest talents come here to perform some of the most beautiful music ever written before enthusiastic audiences.

In addition to the Quadrennial Competition and its performances, accompanying exhibits and presentations, the IVCI also conducts several ongoing educational activities that encompass a broad range of performances and “informances” including the International Violinists in Schools program, student field trips to the Competition itself  and the Juried Exhibition of Student Art, a statewide multi-disciplinary approach in visual art education.

International Violinists in Schools

Program description

One of the most popular annual educational programs is  International Violinists in Schools (IVIS). This program affords elementary, middle and high school students the opportunity to meet one of the Competition’s bright young stars in their own schools. Laureates visit schools around Central Indiana to present “informances” – brief discussions of their experiences as emerging professionals, plus demonstrations of their playing.
