Dance Kaleidoscope Studios

Dance Kaleidoscope Studios

Dance Kaleidoscope opened the doors of its own studios on Indy’s Near East Side in August 2020. Indiana’s longest-running professional contemporary dance company now after 49 years, has a home of its own. Our beautiful, airy, 13,000 square foot state-of-the-art dance center is also an inclusive and welcoming center for the Indianapolis community, and a home for you.

Since 2015, DK’s professional dancers have been teaching year-round classes for all ages and abilities from the youngest dancer on tippy toes to pre-professional students who want to learn the Graham Technique. There is a place for you at Dance Kaleidoscope Studios!

DK grew out of an educational program with Arts for Learning Indiana: Voice of the Arts (formerly Young Audiences of Indiana), the local chapter of the national arts organization that supports arts in education and has maintained a partnership with Arts for Learning throughout its history. Through its educational programs, the company has performed in hundreds of schools throughout Indiana and the country and annually presents dozens of student matinees and workshops that serve thousands of school children. A compelling aspect for DK’s education programs is its firm belief that the art of dance is an important tool for our children’s education and their ability to learn.

DK’s Mission:

To inspire, educate and entertain through the experience of outstanding contemporary dance.

Goals:

  • To create, produce and maintain a repertoire of outstanding dance by internationally recognized choreographers.
  • To strengthen and broaden the understanding and appreciation of contemporary dance.
  • To develop and sustain diverse audiences.
  • To provide increasing access and exposure to dance through development of informative educational programs for children.
  • To be a cultural ambassador of the Indianapolis community and the State of Indiana

DK Virtual Intensive Study

Program description

Dance Kaleidoscope is excited to offer a free week of virtual classes for dancers from Preschool to Pre-Professional levels.  DK hopes to help families with activities for young children, to help young dancers further their understanding and skills, and to help dancers stay in shape who are waiting to return to the studio and auditions. All classes will be taught on Zoom by professional DK dancers who are ready to inspire (and to be inspired by their students).

Students must Register
To get the link for each day’s classes, email dkeducation7@gmail.com no later than 8pm the day before. There is no charge for this week of classes, but we invite you to consider making a donation of any size to help DK continue offering classes and being part of your dance community. Thank you!

Throughout the week, DK will release simple choreography for all to learn via YouTube. This will be a chance for students to practice moves with the choreographer, Aleksa Lukasiewicz. Students can also make a video of themselves doing the dance and email it to us for a culmination video to be released after the week-long intensive has finished.

Be sure to check out our extracurricular activities scheduled at 5pm. These are a fun way to expand students’ understanding of dance.
