Arts for Learning

Arts for Learning

Arts for Learning engages children with the arts by bringing teaching artists into schools and communities. We believe in the arts and their ability to transform education. We believe that when learning is enriched with the arts, students get more out of school.

Arts for Learning offers programs in various forms – including performances, hands-on workshops, and in-depth residencies. Our programs connect the arts with the curriculum to supplement learning.

Our programs occur wherever learning takes place, including afterschool programs, libraries, community centers, juvenile detention facilities, and hospitals.

House Full of Friends by Sofiya Inger

Program description

Teaching young people to share, accept differences, and work together peacefully, this interactive program starts with a story of a tiny blue house full of very colorful characters. Students will play with shapes and forms from recycled materials, learn how to fold, bend, score, and attach them to build their own “homes full of friends,” where everyone has a place to stay and a story to tell. Hand-eye coordination, spatial perception, independent decision making, and visual storytelling are important goals of the workshop, but, most importantly, it will be fun!
