“Villages Voices: Notes from the Griot” is a live and interactive artistic experience that utilizes musicians, dancers, actors, poets and visual artists to tell the stories and highlight the contributions of African-Americans in the arts whose works are either unknown and/or underperformed.
“Village Voices” is a celebration of artistic contributions from African-Americans that will be performed throughout the year as a reminder that artistic contributions in the fine arts can and should be presented regularly and not just to commemorate Black History Month. With artistic performances in classical piano, jazz, African dance, prose and poetry from the late 18thc-present day, this presentation is ideal for K-12 and contains a multitude of interactive and participatory elements.
This program is made possible through the Arts Council’s Art & Soul program. You can read more about this program here.
