Indiana Performing Arts Initiative

Program description

IPAI is a FREE OF CHARGE side-by-side immersive summer theater training program that partners local high school and college performing arts students by providing a unique opportunity to work alongside and hone their craft with professional artists and experienced actors currently working in the field of theatre. Since 2016 the high schools converging on downtown Indy to discover their theatrical paths were as far south as Franklin Central, as far west as Avon High School and up to Pike on the North. The college pre-professional performers have represented IUPUI, Ball State, ISU, Marian University, IVY Tech, the University of Evansville, Indiana University and the Chicago College of Performing Arts. The professional theatre performance and educational partners hail from Beef & Boards, Booth
Tarkington Civic Theatre, IRT, ATI, The Lilly Theatre, Butler University, Anderson University, Ball State University, IUPUI, and Claude McNeal Productions.

This new initiative is an expansion of our Youth and the Arts training program at Herron High School and Riverside High School (collectively known as Indianapolis Classical Schools), where we work with over 250 theatre students each year. As a way to inspire future theater artists, this unique training opportunity focuses on; 1) year-round
apprentice and internships in theater administration and production, along with; 2) performance opportunities during the summer months. Young student performers and technicians work alongside professional actors, directors, choreographers and designers, culminating in professionally produced full-length shows.
