A Message from the Instructor
Stanislavski often referred to tension as the “occupational disease” of the actor, and Lee Strasberg believed that tension was the actor’s greatest enemy. As theatre artists, useless habitual tension affects us on many levels, causing poor concentration, forgetfulness, vocal blocks, physical fatigue, muscle cramps, frustration and anxiety.

In this brief class, we will work to understand, locate, and release habitual tensions in order to free ourselves to be better performers.

-Class will begin with a short talk (approx. 10 min.) on habitual tension, how tension spreads throughout the body (The Domino Effect), and how tension hinders your voice and body.

-Next, the attendees will participate in a floorwork exercises (approx. 30 min.), focusing on breath and identifying individual tension trouble spots.

-The class will conclude with a wrap-up discussion (approx. 5 – 10 min.), where attendees can share feedback on the exercise.

NOTE: Attendees will need to have floor space in order to participate in the exercise.

Generously sponsored by Printing Partners.
