For February 2021, we welcome Indiana artist Kevin Rose Schultz for a solo exhibition of her encaustic and cyanotype work. Schultz views her work as visual poerty using light for her cyanotype garments and layers in her photo encaustic work reflecting beauty and feeling. ‘Poetry of Light and Layers’ will be open through February 26th, 2021.
“My work explores the feminine spirit through vintage dresses and photography. I use the
historical alternative photographic process of cyanotype contact printing with the sun and the contemporary practice of layering digital photographs with encaustic wax medium to
capture the essence of the female form through my vintage dress collection. My interest in fashion and dresses was sparked by my maternal grandmother, who altered her wedding dress for me to play dress-up when I was little. She also sewed dresses for me and my three little sisters and beautiful Barbie doll gowns and wedding dresses. She continues to inspire me today as I collect, photograph, and print the vintage dresses I have collected. I want my creations to reflect this appreciation for the feminine and the
beauty that comes from within.” – Kevin Rose Schultz
Appointments will be available throughout the month to meet the curators at the show for a walk through. The Schwitzer Gallery is located on the second floor of the Circle City Industrial Complex and is open to the public 9a-5pm weekdays.
