The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Dawn Cooper and “The Color of Gratitude,” a collection of “whimsical abstract” paintings, for First Friday, 6-9pm on Friday, May 7th.
When she paints, time stands still for Cooper, and her show is a tribute of gratitude for the teachers that have led her along her art path.
“There is no past, no future,” Cooper said. “Only the present. Each step of my journey into the art world, I have encountered great teachers.”
About Dawn Cooper
An Indianapolis native, Dawn Cooper has worked her entire career in the legal field, and currently “pays the bills” as a passionate paralegal. She has three grown children and two Turkish Van cats. Cooper is also a volunteer with the Department of Natural Resources and the Midwest Peregrine Program, rescuing downed fledgling falcons and taking them back to their nests as they aren’t ready to fly from the ground.
“Art presents a good balance to the seriousness of my job,” Cooper said. “I discovered art as a distraction while going through some tough life events.”
Cooper occasionally teaches her own art classes, and wanted to pay tribute to those that have guided her journey as an artist.
“My art life has evolved thanks to some amazing artists I\’ve met along the way. In 2016, I was invited to join a group of artists doing au plein air painting during the Irvington Garden Tour and I’ve continued to be invited back. In 2019, I met an amazing group of artists from Louisville who brought me into their art family and taught me so many things about running a gallery and event planning. My father, a talented furniture and cabinet maker, recently started making custom frames for my art.”
About the Full Circle Nine Gallery
The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. The artists will work together to help each other advance in skill and practice, as well as to bring success to the gallery.
With over two dozen artists occupying a large, three-room space of the more factory-reminiscent portion of the Circle City Industrial Complex, Full Circle Nine offers a wide variety of art forms, media, and approaches.
To better work within the COVID-19 shutdown and restrictions, the Full Circle Nine Gallery has hosted Virtual First Fridays, on the gallery’s Facebook page, @fullcircleninegallery, as well as on its Instagram, @fc9gallery, during the typical First Friday hours. During that time, the artists will host live streams, post videos, or showcase photos of their latest work, in an effort to continue to connect with fans and patrons. The gallery has also resumed weekend hours, 12-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with health precautions, such as required masks.
Full Circle Nine Gallery is located at 1125 Brookside Ave., Indianapolis, IN, 46202, in the South Studios section of the Circle City Industrial Complex. For more information, or for artists interested in joining the Full Circle Nine, please visit www.fullcirclenine.com
