DivaFest 2021

DivaFest 2021

at The Play Ground at IndyFringe

Nationally, only 19% of published plays are written by women. Over the past ten years, we have been working hard to make an impact and change that number. Since DivaFest began in 2010 the festival has produced over 60 plays and readings. Read the history and our progress.

The four new plays selected for DivaFest were scheduled to perform their plays in April 2020, but were postponed due to COVID-19. These plays will now debut outdoors April 15 – 25:

DIVAFEST SHOW DESCRIPTIONS

I Am the One Who by Allison Ballard

I Am the One Who tells the personal story of Allison’s healing journey from trauma to empowerment. It’s the story of your average Midwestern American mom: raising kids, paying bills and living a life that barely works. An unexpected discovery of Taiko, traditional Japanese drumming, opens a pathway to healing childhood trauma. Using the transforming powers of love, humor and empty whiskey barrels, it is a story of hope and light that portrays the resiliency of the human spirit.

A Dry Rosé –  A Lesbian Love Story or Something Very Similar is a coming of (older) age comedy dealing with the lives of four lesbian women, between the ages of 45 and 60(ish), and how they navigate dating in this computer and social media-saturated society, as well as dealin with their feelings of the loss of gay culture amongst the younger generations of the LGBTQ community
