Crewel Jewels Exhibition

Crewel Jewels Exhibition

Presented by SullivanMunce Cultural Center at Sullivan Munce Cultural Center

Crewelwork is one of the oldest forms of Needlework brought to America on the Mayflower. In England and Europe, Crewel was owned only by royal families or seen in churches where King and Queens worshiped. Crewel Embroidery is done with wool or silk & wool blended fibers on fine linen. It may be embellished with silk or metallic threadwork. Crewel is one of the most exclusive and expensive needlework forms still produced today. It requires a dedication to the preservation of this Art form ~ Painting with Thread.

The Crewel Jewels Needlework Guild is a group of women dedicated to the art of Crewel Embroidery.  In this exhibition you will see fine examples of this art form along with many award-winning pieces.
