Beethoven’s best known work for piano trio, the “Archduke”, is paired with Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s unique Septet for Piano Trio and String Quartet.
Live in person, live stream and one week on demand viewing choices available.
The two ensembles participating in the Indianapolis-based portion of our festival share the stage tonight. First off will be the Horszowski Trio showing a different side of their artistry than their previous night’s concert with a major Beethoven piano trio. Beethoven made his final public performance on piano at the premiere of the “Archduke” trio.
The Ying Quartet joins the Horszowskis for the second half of the program that features Zwilich’s Septet for Piano Trio and String Quartet, commissioned in 2008 for the Kalichstein Laredo Robinson Trio and the Miami Quartet. Zwilich is a very active composer whose works (in a normal year) receive dozens of performances. She has also written works for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to open the Circle Theatre and a solo violin work for the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis
