Music from Russia is an anchor in the world of classical music, and Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina begins our musical journey. Often described as a member of the avant-garde, Gubaidulina became a challenging voice in her country and created the whimsical Fairytale Poem for a 1971 radio broadcast.
