The 19th Amendment ratification centennial (plus one) celebration features a concert by an all-women ensemble. Our program includes a premiere season performance of Victoria Bond’s Blue and Green Music, inspired by a Georgia O’Keeffe painting from 1920, and Amy Beach’s virtuosic Piano Quintet from 1905. Her husband, Henry Harris Aubrey Beach, limited her concertizing and was the reason for her works prior to 1910 to be published under her married name, Mrs. H. H. A. Beach. Beach was the first successful woman composer in America. She voted in the 1920 election and every election thereafter until her death in 1944.
