You’ve finished your work-in-progress and you’re ready to submit—well, not quite. Or maybe you’ve been shopping it around for a while without any hits. The missing link between the completion of your writing and the publication path is revision.

In this course, writers will learn about the different types of editing their work may require and receive a go-to guide for common writing errors at the sentence and global levels.

Each attendee will submit a 1,000-word sample of their writing for editing (either a work-in-progress or a completed piece), with each small change and suggestion reviewed live in class like a traditional writing workshop setting but for editing. After completing this course, writers will understand the editorial process and be better equipped to polish their own work prior to publication.

Leah McNaughton Lederman has created and edited two volumes of Café Macabre: A Collection of Horror Stories and Art by Women (SourcePoint Press, 2019; 2021) as well as her own short story collection: A Novel of Shorts: The Woman No One Sees (2020). Her creative nonfiction has been published in The River and South Review and Defenestration Mag, and she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for her essay “My Bleeding Heart” in the online anthology, What is and What Will Be: Life in the Time of Covid. Leah has been a freelance editor for ten years and is active in several writing communities in the Midwest, where she lives with her husband and an assortment of children, cats, and dogs.
