Recognizing the connections between war and composition, ICO highlights Butler University Artist-in-Residence, Michael Schelle. Resilience for viola, cello and orchestra commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the end of WWII. Butterworth, a casualty of WWI, was inspired by the English countryside and traditional folk melodies in his “Idyll” On the Banks of Green Willow. Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont was his reaction to the Napoleonic Wars.
Program:
Beethoven- Egmont Overture
Schelle- Resilience
Matt Albert, Viola
Joshua DeVries, Cello
Butterworth- On the Banks of Green Willow
Haydn- Symphony No. 103 in E-flat (Drum Roll)
