The Architecture of Stillness an exhibition, featuring artworks by Mille Guldbeck will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery located in the College of Osteopathic Medicine from October 25 – January 3, 2022.  An artists’ presentation and reception will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021, from 5-7 pm in the MUAG located in College of Osteopathic Medicine.  The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Mille Guldbeck’s love of natural science has led her to investigate how perception of space and color are formed and interpreted.  Inspired by the story of a young scientist who wished to record all the colors of blue that he could see, Mille began to think about how human perception of the natural world seems flawed. Even with sophisticated observational “tools” the shared experience we attempt to relay is still deficient.

Mille depicts alternate realities built by human error and misunderstanding as they apply to the natural world and natural systems. These are alternate realities informed by (mis)observation; both her own and that of others; images that seek to embody the desire to shape and understand the world around them.

Mille Guldbeck received her MFA from The University of Iowa and completed a five-year program at the Jydske Kunstakademi in Denmark. She was granted a post-graduate scholarship to the University of Zagreb in former Yugoslavia where she remained for almost two years completing paintings as well as a large photography project. She holds additional degrees in Anthropology and Liberal Education. Her work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad and she currently serves as a Full Professor of Art at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
