Mariachi Herencia de México, an ensemble of students from Chicago’s immigrant barrios, is breathing new life into the traditional music. The group aims to preserve the tradition of mariachi music while innovating for a new generation of listeners.

Mariachi Herencia de México takes you on a musical journey through México introducing the different styles of the mariachi song including, the traditional son, rancheras, boleros and huapangos. The members highlight the history of the mariachi instrumentation and the importance of this rich, cultural tradition in music today.  Mariachi Herencia de México performs songs from the group’s latest album titled Esencia, a tribute to the golden age of Mexican music including hits like, Cucurrucucu Paloma, Los Laureles, Te Traigo Estas Flores, Los Mandados, and many more!  The group even performs a few American classics including, a mariachi tribute to the musical Grease, some country and bluegrass favorites, and some classical pieces, to demonstrate the depth of the mariachi repertoire. Comprised of both female and male musicians, the group performs stunning arrangements that highlight the group’s powerful vocals and exquisite harmonies.
