Talk with Craig Whitten about his love of nature as he demonstrates how he creates his crisp, clean watercolors.
Indiana Artisan painter Craig Whitten uses the word “spontaneity” in conversations about nature, art and the way he views both.
“The spontaneity of watercolor is a perfect correlation to the spontaneity of nature to me,” says the Lafayette-based artist whose career started in landscape architecture. He’s well known among art enthusiasts for his crisp, clean koi and bird paintings. “Everything I do with my art reflects something that has touched me at some point, be it from a standpoint of pure awe at what nature shows us, or something I found comical. It all comes from a place of an emotional experience.”
Talk to Craig about his work as he paints during the May 14 Carmel Arts & Design District gallery walk. He’ll be in Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery from 5-9 p.m.
