Full Circle Nine Gallery Presents Kent Brinkley, “Fragments” for July First Friday

Presented by Full Circle Nine Gallery at Full Circle Nine Gallery

“I wanted to jump head-first into the realm of collage,” Brinkley, a multi-media artist, said. “I had never worked with the medium before, but I’m always trying new things, learning everything I can. This project has been and still is a lot of fun and intense. It’s interesting that so many people believed in my vision and wanted to share in the experience by donating so much material. Now I have a thousand magazines that I stumble over every day, in and out of my studio. If people’s belief in my idea was measurable in pounds, I guess it was worth its weight.”

About Kent Brinkley

Kent Brinkley is a self-taught artist with an insatiable appetite for growth and learning from every possible source in the art world. Brinkley has spent “countless years” in art history sections of libraries and bookstores, while soaking up experiences at MOMA and Whitney in New York City. While in the pursuit of art knowledge, Brinkley often switches media in his own work, from oil to sculpture, mixed media, found object, and now collage.

“I do what I do because I’ve tried not doing art and I am incapable of it. It’s such an integral part of who I am and have always been that it’s impossible for me to separate the two,” Brinkley said.

“Fragments” is both a collection of magazine bits to create Brinkley’s collage work, but also his consideration of the collage of knowledge behind his artwork, as well as piecing together the idea in his own head.

Additional First Friday programming will include live music performed by FC9 board member and artist Steve Van De Vanter’s  Agents of Apocalypse, along with two guest bands, Mind’s Eye and Fingerprints of Madness, in the Art Café area near the corridor side of the gallery.
