Ups & Downs: An Experience of Unpredictability in the Body

Ups & Downs: An Experience of Unpredictability in the Body

Presented by Circle City Industrial Complex Artists at Circle City Industrial Complex

On First Friday, August 5 from 6-9 PM you can find sugar artist, Andrea Jandernoa, with her installation, Ups & Downs, at the Schwitzer Gallery on the second floor of the Circle City Industrial Complex. This installation invites viewers to interact with several dripping sugar nets. As sugar drips the nets move up and down. Viewers will have an opportunity to customize their own sugar disk and add it to the ever-changing installation.

“People always ask to touch my work when they discover it is made from sugar,” says Jandernoa. “I am delighted to make this possible with my newest installation, Ups & Downs.” While the installation will be temporary – lasting only as long as sugar drips – Jandernoa will document interactions for a subsequent zine publication centered on experiences of uncertainty, health, and community. “I began working with sugar as a way to understand my own experiences with diabetes, but I soon discovered that metaphors of health, physical change, and unpredictability resonate with most people,” says Jandernoa.

Ups & Downs is a Power Plant Grant Project made possible by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and facilitated by Big Car Collaborative.
