Solo-Exhibition by Artist Michele Burns at the SALI Gallery, Greenwood, featuring photoluminescent artworks, AKA “Nightlight Art”: One work by day – Another by night
SALI Solo-Exhibition by Hoosier Artist Michele Burns. Opening reception Saturday August 6, 2022, 1-3 PM.
Burns stumbled on glow paint 20 years back and was hooked by the fun and magical medium. She searched the world for the brightest glow, and now makes her own photoluminescent pigments using strontium aluminate and rare earths, for paints that are 30 times brighter than plastic ceiling stars, glow 10 hours from exposure to any visible light, and recharge for up to 50 years, for artworks that double as functional nightlights. Recurring motifs include mandalas, Art Deco, trees, tessellation, nursery art, dinosaurs, and occasional protest commentary on “the obscenity of the $1.4 trillion dollar annual US “defense” budget,” among other things.
The SALI Gallery, 299 E. Broadway Street, Greenwood, has free onsite parking. Regular hours, Wed. – Sat. 11:00 – 3:00, or by appointment: 317-882-5562 http://www.southsideartleague.org/
