“The story of my show is that it’s never too late to begin a creative adventure,” Monroe said. “I was 64-years-old when I completed my first flow painting. Now, just over four years later, I’m featured in this show, demonstrating the richness of creating art using flow painting techniques.”

About Donna Jo Monroe
Donna Jo Monroe, now a Fountain Square resident, grew up in Indianapolis, a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School and the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI, and later post-graduate studies at Indiana Wesleyan University. Monroe worked as a graphic designer until moving to the printing industry, while also serving on boards for several Indianapolis foundations and associations.

Monroe retired and entered a new phase in her life: Art. “A friend sent me a YouTube video of someone creating a painting using the flow technique and it spoke to me. I loved it at first sight and took a class, practiced, watched more videos, more classes and now I even teach the classes,” Monroe said.

Each painting is unique. The process is very therapeutic for Monroe. “To see a blank canvas, to select and mix each color to the correct consistency, to add each color to a cup and then let the paint create a beautiful and one-of-a-kind piece of work, that never ceases to amaze me,” Monroe said.

Additional First Friday programming will include live music performed by FC9 board member and artist Steve Van De Vanter’s house band Agents of Apocalypse, along with guest bands, in the Art Café area near the corridor side of the gallery.

About the Full Circle Nine Gallery

The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. The artists will work together to help each other advance in skill and practice, as well as to bring success to the gallery. With over two dozen artists occupying a large, three-room space of the more factory-reminiscent portion of the Circle City Industrial Complex, Full Circle Nine offers a wide variety of art forms, media, and approaches.

The gallery has regular hours: 6-10 p.m. on Fridays, 12-4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
