Music at Butler: Butler University Choirs

Presented by Butler Arts Center at Schrott Center for the Arts, Butler Arts Center

Join the talented members of the Butler University Choral Department for a delightful evening of choral music from across the ages and spanning the globe. Featuring members of the Butler ChoraleUniversity Choir and Chamber Singers, audiences will enjoy music in Hebrew, Portuguese, Basque, Latin and English, among others.

The Butler Chorale is pleased to share a cultural snapshot from Brazil’s leading musical figure of the 20th century, Heitor Villa-Lobos, whose Estrela é a Lua Nova combines indigenous dialect with Portuguese to reflect the melting pot of this hemisphere’s second largest country. The Chorale’s singing of Moses Hogan’s tour de force setting of My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord will be a rousing addition to the evening program. The Butler Chamber Singers will feature 16th century madrigal selections along with English folk songs. And the University Choir returns to sing under the direction of John Perkins, just back from teaching in Malaysia during his sabbatical leave, Spring Semester, 2022. University Choir’s selections include works by Mozart, Papoulis and the moving composition Even When He Is Silent by Kim Andre Arnesen.

We look forward to sharing these works and more with our audiences, and we thank you for support of the arts at Butler University.
THIS PERFORMANCE IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, NO TICKET IS REQUIRED.
