The Butler University Percussion Ensemble presents the first of its two fall-semester concerts featuring the talents of the Butler percussion studio. Listeners will be immersed in a world of intricate patterns, sounds, and textures – from bowed vibraphones, chiming flowerpots, marimbas, triangles, electronic grooves, and drums of all kinds. Directed by Artist-in-Residence Jon Crabiel, the program presents works by American composers – Ivan Trevino, Devonté Hynes, Victor LaBozzetta III, Robert Dillon, and William Duckworth – all at the cutting edge of contemporary music. The performance will also include Afro-Cuban drumming featuring an arrangement of the Latin Jazz standard Afro-Blue by legendary Cuban percussionist and bandleader, Mongo Santamaria.
