This recital features songs and arias by Charles Wakefield Cadman, Giacomo Puccini, Joaquin Rodrigo, Joaquin Nin, and contemporary Korean composers like Wonju Lee, Dunam Kim, and Hyogeun Kim. Cadman is one of the representative Indianist movement composers. Dr. Park will perform her song cycle, “From Wigwam and Tepee” for which Cadman used tribal melodies. Despite their different nationalities (Rodrigo from Spain and Nin from Cuba), Rodrigo and Nin were inspired by Spanish ancient folk music. After famous soprano arias from Puccini’s operas, the program will present modern South Korean songs influenced by folk elements. This recital is part of Dr. Park’s research project on indigenous vocal music from different cultures.
