Classical by Design: A Survey of Unknown Classical Songs and Composers
Imagine a poet sending out a specific poem of his to as many composers as he knew, asking them to send back compositions using his lyrics. Giuseppe Carpani did this in 1807 and 63 composers answered. Only one is remembered today. Join Mark and James as they present 5 of these songs as the basis for a recital of Classical-era song repertoire by composers who are less famous or now forgotten. Those composers include Eberl, Giuliani, Mortellari, Koželuch, CPE Bach, Wanhal, de la Rüe, Förster, Attwood, and one famous guy, Beethoven.
