Snow Days Exhibition

Snow Days Exhibition

at Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

With objects ranging from delicate carved ivory miniatures of sled dogs to snowy Western landscapes to exquisitely beaded mittens designed to protect the wearer from the cold, the exhibit will highlight works that embrace the beauty of the season and the ingenuity it takes to survive it.

For many people, including artists, winter means more time spent inside to work on their art, such as preparing furs into gloves and mukluks before beading floral patterns onto them. These essential items keep the wearer warm (as well as fashionable) in frigid sub-Arctic and Arctic conditions. The winter-wear examples in the exhibition are beautifully embellished, showcasing the skill and creativity of their artists.
