The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Sarah Rae Cote with ‘Brushing Away Reality,’ a bright and colorful collection of her latest heavy contour-lined paintings, as part of the First Friday art tour, 6-9pm on Friday, February 3.
Admission and parking are free.
“The subject is often whimsical and full of movement,” Cote said of her art. “This particular body of work is focused on ‘blind’ contour portraits along with a couple of self-portraits. It’s like nothing I’ve shown at Full Circle 9 (FC9) before.”
About Sarah Rae Cote
“Art is the only thing that makes sense to me; everything else, I feel like I’m faking,” Cote said. “I have been immersed in the arts since I was born, thanks to my mother being an avid admirer.”
Sarah Rae Cote grew up in Indianapolis and attended North Central High School. A self-taught artist, she’s known for her work at the Speedway Art Center and at the former Art Bank, as well as her coordination work installing artists at the Mass Ave. Wine Shoppe. All the while, she has taught art classes and camps at events she’s help to coordinate, and at makers markets around the city. She’s excited for her first class held at the Full Circle Nine Gallery, and future classes, but Brushing Away Reality looks inward, as Cote uses paint to heal and explore heartache.
“I recently experienced some anguish that left me feeling vulnerable. We all see things differently, and that’s the beauty of art,” Cote said. “Life is beautiful—even the painful parts that we’re not ready to talk about—they just add color to the palette.”
