Cain’s show marks her return to Central Indiana, after a bit of a nomadic life out west. While there, she taught art classes, explored scenes different than the Midwest, and painted and further developed her own style.

“I love to travel. I love the beach and the mountains, and pretty much everything in nature,” Cain said. “My art typically reflects these, my favorite things. Throughout this, I decided that I missed being in Indiana, near family and long-time friends. I’m excited to show how my art has evolved in the past few years and excited to be back home again in Indiana.”

About Melissa Cain

Originally from Monrovia, Melissa Cain is self-taught in her current realm of combining paint and resin to create a world of both abstract and representational work with depth and texture. Prior to that, Cain worked in graphic design, but has fallen out of love with digital art as a medium. Now, she prefers “messy art” and the fun of teaching painting classes, all in an effort to minimize the stress of life.

“I do art as stress relief. I have always been artistic, since I was a child,” Cain said. “However, I don’t know that I would have ever given myself permission to do art as often as I do, as an adult, if I hadn’t been told by a doctor that it is a form of stress relief. As a person with epilepsy, having something that relaxes you and stimulates your brain in a creative way is a great thing. I want everyone to know this and to give yourself permission to play! We all have to grow up in some ways…but not in every way.”

About the Full Circle Nine Gallery

The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. The artists will work together to help each other advance in skill and practice, as well as to bring success to the gallery. With over two dozen artists occupying a large, three-room space of the more factory-reminiscent portion of the Circle City Industrial Complex, Full Circle Nine offers a wide variety of art forms, media, and approaches.

The gallery has regular hours: 6-10pm on Fridays, 12-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
