Margo Simms-Wallace, fine artist and high school art teacher, works in the painstaking medium of graphite on paper. Her unique approach to drawing captures fleeting moments of consciousness in the slow process of drawing.
Katrina J. Murray Studio & Gallery, 203b on the 2nd floor of CCIC, is excited to present the work of Margo Simms-Wallace. Margo’s pencil drawings are a direct focus on perception of the world around her shown through repetition, and the feeling of physical and mental disconnection. Whether mirrored, doubled or overlaid, the repetition or abstraction in the composition is meant to be unsettling to the viewer. The imagery she chooses to work with and the selective repetition is a way to articulate the feeling of time moving and passing or the feeling of being out of body. She looks for commonly experienced moments, tension, and structure. She understands that the act of drawing is a reinforcement of the slow passage of time.
