Join us at the JCC for a special evening with GennaRose Nethercott, author of ‘Thistlefoot,’ and the Traveling ‘Thistlefoot’ Puppet Show.
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: NPR • The Wall Street Journal • Washington Independent Review of Books • BookPage • Book Riot
We are proud to invite you to our first Spring Community Reads, a Taste of the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts: Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott.
Set in the US, the Yaga siblings have been estranged since childhood. But when they receive a mysterious inheritance from their twice-great-grandmother near Kyiv, the two reunite, only to discover that their bequest isn’t land or money, but something far stranger: a sentient house on chicken legs followed by an evil, ageless pursuer. In the tradition of modern fairytales comes a sweeping epic rich in Eastern European folklore and Jewish myth, a debut novel about the ancestral hauntings that stalk us, and the uncanny power of story.
Far beyond a simple reading, GennaRose brings with her the Traveling Thistlefoot Puppet Show. And it’s not just any puppet show for children, it is an unforgettable presentation that brings the whimsy of the book to life right before your eyes.
The event will take place May 4th at 7 PM. Tickets to the event are $10. Ticket with a copy of the book is $28 plus tax. All are welcome!
This is a Jewish Book Council Program.
