“Versions of Childhood” featuring Bob Sander and Nestor Gomez

Presented by Storytelling Arts of Indiana at Indiana History Center

“Hometown Stories” featuring Bob Sander

Bob Sander was the only child of Frances and Theo Sander. He grew up in the small town of Beech Grove, just south of Indianapolis in the 1950s and 60s. His German great aunt (Tante) would sometimes call him “Snickelfritz,” as did his father. It’s a German (Pennsylvania Dutch) word for an overly talkative and sometimes mischievous child.

“Coming-of-Age Stories” with Nestor Gomez
Nestor shares true, personal, coming-of-age narratives, both as a kid growing up in his native country of Guatemala, and raising his own kids in his adoptive city of Chicago. Gomez told his first story at The Moth StorySLAM in Chicago to get over his stuttering problem. To his surprise, he won that night and has not stopped telling stories since. He has gone on to win an impressive 77 Moth slams and has been featured at the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, Spring Grove Storytelling Festival, and Timpanogos Storytelling Festival.
