Harrison Center First Friday Gallery Opening

Presented by Harrison Center at Harrison Center for the Arts

In the Harrison Gallery,

Woman’s Place, Sacred Space: Merriment, Make Believe, Memory, Mourning by Allison Ford. Through the common imagery of food, this collection of installation, sculpture, and dyed fabrics seeks to create an environment ripe for conversation and shared experience. Inside are memories of celebration and merriment, spaces to mourn traditions and people lost to time, and the joy of make-believe for the future. Welcome. Be at ease. Have a seat at the table and feel free to play with your food at this wearable feast.

In the City Gallery,

Interloper by Kipp Normand. Normand is well known for his strange combinations of damaged and discarded antique materials, printmaking, and photography to create shadow boxes and collage with a dark sense of humor.

In the Gallery Annex,

Saylor’s Allegory, Secundum Artem by Tyler Meuninck. These drawings on paper depict an imagined world where Lake Michigan is a vibrant hub of activity, with squids, whales, ships, airplanes, crabs, and hollow vessels all coexisting in a chaotic yet fascinating manner.

In the Speck Gallery,

Keepers of the Garden: The Greatriarchs of Martindale-Brightwood by Omar Rashan. An exhibition celebrating the cultural heritage of Martindale Brightwood in Indianapolis. This captivating AR exhibit honors the Greatriarchs, who have preserved the community’s traditions and history. Explore a diverse range of art forms, augmented by an engaging AR experience, to deepen your appreciation of Martindale Brightwood’s unique heritage.

In the Hank & Dolly’s Gallery,

Consuming Love by Josh Huron. This exhibit uses pen and ink to showcase 13 thought-provoking questions asked by Jesus. His answers were equally thought-provoking and often stirred strong emotions in his listeners. Despite the vulnerability of these moments, he always met his listeners with a fierce and consuming love.

In the Underground Gallery,

Eye to I, a Complete Life group exhibit. The artwork is created by caregivers, patients, and staff of the IU Health Simon Cancer Center. Each individual art piece tells a story of the personal journey of the artist, and this show demonstrates the power of the arts for human connection.

All shows will open at 6 pm on Friday, October 6th.

In-person gallery tours will open for visitors Monday-Friday from 9 am – 5 pm. Online galleries will open on October 7th. Make an appointment or view the online galleries at harrisoncenter.org/buy-art.
