Sofiya Inger: Old Tales Are New Again

Sofiya Inger: Old Tales Are New Again

Presented by SullivanMunce Cultural Center at Sullivan Munce Cultural Center

Old Tales we grew up listening to-they are back.

Fiery dragons circling overhead, dark forests are full of foreboding creatures…

Birds ate all the crumbs; we are looking for a path, and we are tired.

Beware the deceiving lights promising an easy rest, beware the false promises.

Listen to the quiet voice within…

-Sofiya Inger

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sofiya Inger works in mixed media, where she “marries” various objects, textures, and techniques, such as textile, painting, collage, sculpting, and found materials. Sometimes the story, and the idea is there in the beginning, but often changes, evolves, and transforms with the process. What remains constant is artist’s deep interest and love for Nature, her patience, tenacity, simple truth of life and death.

Since the late nineties, Sofiya has been working as a teaching artist with groups of different ages and abilities, and exhibiting in Indiana’s many galleries, including Gallery 924, SullivanMunce Cultural Center, Center, JCC, Clowes Hall, and Indianapolis Art Center. Sofiya Inger was the first recipient of Skip McKinney award at Indianapolis Art Center, with following immersive installation “Story Dome”; received NEA grant for textile installation “What lies within” at adult day center; created mosaic “Tree of Leaves” at Indianapolis School for the blind.
