From Boarding School to Alcatraz, the Clarence Carnes Story told by Tim Tingle

at Unknown

Clarence Carnes was only 19 when he was sentenced to Alcatraz Federal Prison. How did this member of the Choctaw tribe find his way to America’s most infamous prison? Tim Tingle, also a member of the Oklahoma Choctaw, traces the path that led Carnes from boarding school to the Rock. Tim’s heritage forms the foundation of his rich traditional storytelling. Tim tells stories in both English and Choctaw, enhancing his performances with song, the haunting Native American flute and the whale skin drum. Tim has shared his stories in 40 states and on overseas performance tours with the Department of Deense. He is a published author and teaches classes on Native American storytelling through the University of Oklahoma. This event is interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing.
