Stephen Chamblee: Order From Chaos

at Unknown

The artist, Stephen Chamblee, earned his PhD in Mathematics from IUPUI in 2012. His thesis, "The Dynamics of Twisted Tent Maps," was a study of the math behind many of the fractal structures you see in his art. The contrast in colors at these fractal structures indicates that a small change can make a big difference. This is the essence of chaos. Thus, you can interpret these fractals as pictures of chaos!

In his thesis, Stephen coined the term "dynamical boundary" to describe the fractal structures that make these pictures so beautiful. These fractal structures were unknown and invisible using standard color techniques. It wasn’t until Stephen created the coded-coloring algorithm that these colorful boundaries were revealed, and seemed to bring order to what was previously chaotic and unknown. These boundaries turned out to be exactly
where the dynamics (or behavior) changed. This is the origin of the name "Dynamical Boundaries."

The name is also appropriate because a portion of each sale goes to help refugees rebuild their lives. These refugees found themselves in the midst of chaos, crossed the boundaries of their homeland into the unknown, and are now looking for order, structure, and a second chance.

This is how Dynamical Boundaries got its name and why we would like to partner with you to help people find order in the midst of chaos.
