This year’s Banned Books Week (September 22–28) is shaping up to be our best ever! Local writer Hugh Vandivier will be “Locked Up With Vonnegut,” living in a prison of banned books for the week. He’ll also curate “Banned Books Recovered,” an art exhibit in which local artists will reimagine the covers of threatened literature. Activities will include a film fest featuring Howl, Slaughterhouse-Five, and Good Night and Good Luck. Chris Finan of American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression will present “Corrupting Our Kids: The Attack on YA Literature," a partner event between the Vonnegut Library and Indianapolis Public Library. Finally, “Hugh’s Bedtime Stories” will feature artists, writers, and celebrities reading from banned books to Hugh each evening.
