Garrick Ohlsson, the world’s preeminent Chopin interpreter and winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, joins the ISO for Chopin’s First Piano Concerto, a virtuosic piece encapsulating the composer’s Romantic spirit at its best. The program is paired with Prokofiev’s heroic and emotional Fifth Symphony, which the composer described as “a hymn to free and happy Man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit. … It was a theme that filled my soul.”
