A Happy Marriage: Design Integration of House & Landscape

A Happy Marriage: Design Integration of House & Landscape

at Unknown

Most successful garden designs result from an integration of both “inside and out.” The IMA’s own Miller House and Garden is a perfect example of this. Reconciling the house and its immediate surrounding landscape is not a new concept, and yet, achieving this is still a process of trial and error. Using examples from both classic and modern landscapes, Bobbie Schwartz will discuss several different and practical approaches for resolution of this frequent dichotomy. These include considering the color of one’s home or outbuildings, and how that may help integrate them into the landscape and create a sense of place. She’ll also demonstrate how a careful selection of plants and garden accessories may further enhance that sense of place.

Bobbie Schwartz, FAPLD, is the owner of Bobbie’s Green Thumb in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Her firm focuses on landscape design, consultation, installation, and maintenance for both residential and commercial properties. Bobbie’s landscape signature is the use of perennials, flowering shrubs and ornamental grasses to facilitate color and interest throughout the year. Her work has garnered her numerous awards, and she is actively involved in several green industry professional organizations. She frequently writes columns and articles for both regional and national publications.
