"Icons and Irony"

at Unknown

A select group of artists have achieved international recognition based on a unique image, theme, or technique. For Andy Warhol, this may have been Marilyn Monroe; for Pablo Picasso, the cubist movement; for Roy Lichtenstein, his use of Benday dots. However, these artists, alongside Russell Young, Banksy, and David Kramer, also managed to create works while casting a critical, sardonic eye on the world around them. Looking at these works in context allows us to see the uniquely ironic way in which each saw his own world.
