2013 Out West: LGBT Stories of the American West - Featuring the film TWO SPIRITS

at Unknown

TWO SPIRITS tells the story of Fred Martinez, a Navajo boy who was also a girl, and the mother who cherished him. Fred became one of the youngest hate-crime victims in modern history when he was brutally murdered at sixteen.

After the screening, Out West creator/producer Gregory Hinton will introduce a powerhouse discussion:

* Lydia Nibley, TWO SPIRITS filmmaker
* Wesley Thomas, Native American scholar from Diné College
* Brian Gilley, Native American scholar and associate professor of Anthropology from Indiana University
* Jodi A. Byrd, a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma and associate professor of American Indian Studies and English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will moderate.

TWO SPIRITS is part of Out West at the Eiteljorg, a series of lectures, plays, films and gallery exhibitions which shine a light on the history and culture of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Two Spirit (LGBT2) communities in the American West. Your donation will make possible this important opportunity to tell the all-too-often hidden LGBT2 stories of the West and to highlight the contributions to the history and scholarship of the American West and Native America.
