Rejoice!, Butler University’s annual musical gift to the Indianapolis community, will take place at 8 p.m. December 13 and 14 in Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University.

Butler JCFA’s Rejoice! concert in Clowes Memorial Hall December 11, 2010.Admission is free, but tickets are required. They’re available at the box office, (317) 940-6444, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. There is a limit of four tickets per person, but groups can call (317) 940-9065.

This year’s concert—the 28th annual Rejoice!—will feature six Butler vocal groups performing a selection as varied as the John Rutter Gloria, featuring Christ Church Cathedral organist Simon Thomas Jacobs, and Out of the Dawghouse’s a cappella version of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

“This year’s Rejoice! draws from a number of holiday traditions, including the Anglican tradition of lessons and carols, classic Americana, and contemporary popular Christmas tunes,” says Greg Sanders, the concert’s producer. “There will be something for everyone.”

Other selections will include the Butler University Chorale perform the thorny Twelfth Night of Samuel Barber and a hauntingly beautiful setting of In the Bleak Midwinter by Minnesota composer Abbie Betinis. The Butler University Choir will perform Edward Elgar’s The Snow, and the Butler Chamber Choir will continue the centenary celebration of Benjamin Britten with selections of his Ceremony of Carols for treble voices and harp.

The choral ensembles will combine to perform a Christmas “mash-up” of The Rose /Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming and the classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. There will be plenty of time for audience participation with sing-alongs of several traditional carols.
