Sopheap Pich Artist Talk

at Unknown

Cambodian artist Sopheap Pich will give an Artist Talk in Herron's Basile Auditorium on Thursday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m.

Pich’s A Room will debut in the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Efroymson Family Entrance Pavillion on February 27. But the 40 foot tall, 26 foot wide work, constructed of more than 1,000 strips evoking a bamboo forest, could not have been fabricated without Herron students, faculty and facilities.

In a long-standing and cordial relationship between Herron and the IMA, students may assist in developing works for certain exhibitions based on the artists’ exacting direction. Pich’s installation is only the latest in a string of recent IMA projects that included student labor for artists including Ai Wei Wei, Andrea Zittel, Tara Donovan and Tea Makipaa.

“Our students have the opportunity to engage with nationally and internationally recognized contemporary artists that connect their professional practice to the everyday life of Herron,” said Kathryn Armstrong, faculty member and Basile Center director.

Pich's lecture on February 20 is free and open to the public. Limited parking is available in the Sports Complex Garage just west of Herron. Park in the visitor side of the garage and bring your ticket to the Herron Galleries for validation. Complimentary parking courtesy of The Great Frame Up.

Parking in the surface lot next to Herron School of Art and Design requires a valid IUPUI parking permit at all times.
