Local artist, John J Domont, has spent the winter months guiding 11th and 12th grade students who attend Kehillah College, on a fascinating journey of artistic and personal discovery. His students, Moriah Atlas, Ruth Siegel and Leah Grynheim, will display their work at the Domont Studio Gallery. During their class with Mr. Domont, the students also studied Jewish spiritual texts to help guide them as they explored the many facets of their Jewish identity. In addition to creating acrylic paintings, the students also wrote creative essays and poetry. Kehillah College was created by the Bureau of Jewish Education, to give eleventh and twelfth grade students from throughout Central Indiana the opportunity to expand their Jewish knowledge through seminars in contemporary topics and critical issues. Each class allows students to personally interact with expert teachers and challenge themselves. Students collectively encounter new paths to Jewish engagement and new ways to develop their Jewish identity. Kehillah College is also sponsored by: Congregation Beth El-Zedeck, Congregation Shaarey Tefillah, Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation and Hasten Hebrew Academy. For over 100 years the Bureau of Jewish Education has provided Jewish educational programs, Hebrew education and pre-school education for Central Indiana. The BJE is also a leader in Holocaust Education through its Holocaust speakers’ bureau and Holocaust teacher education programs. The BJE recently received a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., to expand its teacher training programs throughout the State of Indiana. Artist John Domont is a graduate of the Bureau of Jewish Education Hebrew school program and is a well-known artist. His work is featured in many private and museum collections. Mr. Domont was one of the 46 featured artists to create murals for the city of Indianapolis when it hosted the Super bowl in 2012. John is a multi-faceted fine artist, who works in oils, acrylics and photography. His works feature the magical and mystical moments of day-to-day life, the same magic he shared with his students at Kehillah College. Guests at the art opening will see the Kehillah College students work and also have the opportunity to see Mr. Domont’s studio gallery. Refreshments will be served.
