Zakir Hussain has elevated the status of the Indian tabla throughout the world. A child prodigy, he began touring at the age of 12 and is recognized as one of the world’s leading percussionists, and as a chief architect of the world music movement with his many collaboration with artists who cross and transcend diverse genres. He has garnered Grammy Awards, a National Heritage Fellowship, and was named Best Percussionist in the 2012 Downbeat Critics’ Poll, among other accolades. His tours include his own Masters of Percussion; the Global Drum Project with Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead; and with YoYo Ma’s Silk Road Project.
