Eleven occupants of the White House—eight Presidents and three First Ladies—have died while in office. The exhibit documents the circumstances of those deaths. Learn how their deaths effected the nation politically and personally as stories are shared thought letters and photos. Four of the Presidents died of natural causes and four were assassinated. Artifacts representative of the exhibit include: memorial ribbons for William Henry Harrison; a veiled hat worn at the funeral of Caroline Harrison; the original cards from the funeral flowers for Caroline; newspaper articles of Garfield’s struggle; photos of processions for Lincoln and McKinley; other memorabilia.
