Summer Solstice: Community Day

Summer Solstice: Community Day

Presented by Newfields at Indianapolis Museum of Art

Entire IMA campus is free and open to the public
Kick off the start of summer with this free Community Day at the IMA! Participate in a giant community picnic in the Park from noon to 3. Pack your own basket, or snack on grub from on-site food trucks. Lounge on your blanket and enjoy a free outdoor concert by Aurelio Martinez at 12:30 p.m. Have a blanket to spare? Leave it at the on-site drop off and the IMA will wash it and donate it to Outreach Inc. to help homeless youth in Indianapolis.

During the community picnic, liven up your personal art collection at the inaugural Indy Art Swap, presented in partnership with Indy Star and organized by Scott Stulen and Michelle Pemberton. Meet other collectors and trade works of art from your collection in this unique twist on an art fair. Artwork must fit on your blanket and nothing can be swapped for cash— only non-cash transactions allowed. All genres and periods are welcome. If you consider it art, it is fair game to trade. No pre-registration required.

Peruse hundreds of plants from hard-to-find natives to popular perennials at the Madeline F. Elder Greenhouse Summer Solstice Plant Sale, featuring 50 percent off perennials, shrubs and select annuals. IMA members will receive an additional 10 percent off their purchase. The Museum will provide plant transportation to visitors’ vehicles during this event.
