Carmen Agra Deedy reflects on a not-too-distant past when children ran free through their neighborhoods in her story “Blackberries and Chiggers.” Carmen was born in Havana but fled Castro’s Cuba at a very young age with her family. Raised in Decatur, Georgia, Cuban-American storyteller Carmen deedy has appeared at such venues as the Kennedy Center, the New Victory Theater on Broadway, and the Library of Congress.
